Workshop

Next-Level Energy-Climate Research to Support the Transition to Climate-Proof Net Zero Energy Systems

ZiF Workshop

13.11.2023 - 17.11.2023
12:00 - 13:30
Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF)

Convenors: Jan Wohland (Zürich), Hannah Bloomfield (Bristol)

Energy systems worldwide are undergoing profound transformations to avoid greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately stop climate change. These transformations are often based on increased deployment of weather-dependent renewable generation technologies like wind turbines and solar photovoltaics, implying that weather and climate play key roles in designing and operating future energy systems. As a consequence, there is a need for interdisciplinary exchange between the historically distinct energy and climate modelling communities. In this workshop, we provide a forum for in-depth discussion at the energy-climate interface, bringing together leading early career researchers with backgrounds in energy and/or climate modelling. We aim at shaping a community of researchers who tackle energy-sector climate risk and has great potential in facilitating follow-up projects on new science and educational resources.
