Almost half of research expenditure in Germany is financed through third-party funding. Usually, these funds are awarded in competitive procedures to which researchers submit applications. The aim is to identify and fund the best projects based on criteria such as originality, relevance and feasibility. However, the overall selection process is neither efficient nor fair, despite efforts to ensure unbiased and in-depth assessment of the research ideas submitted.
In this workshop, we bring together international perspectives from various disciplines to work together on finding ways to improve standard practices in research funding allocation.
