Dr. Lana Sirri, Amsterdam: Feminist Academic Activism against State Oppression: A Saudi Arabian Case Study

10.06.2024
16:15 - 18:00
Gebäude X

Focusing on academic activism, Lana Sirri highlights women’s role in reshaping gender dynamics and the nation’s modernization path in Saudi Arabia. By bridging academia and activism, Sirri challenges the notion of women’s exclusivity, an important step for nuanced and informed research and advocacy against state-sponsored violence.

Dr. Lana Sirri is a Palestinian scholar and activist, and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam. Her work focuses on the intersection of Islam, race, gender, and sexuality, advocating for the decolonization of feminist studies on Muslim women. She is an affiliated expert at the Centre for Intersectional Justice (CIJ), co-founder of the Berlin Muslim Feminists group, and author of “Islamic  Feminism: Discourses on Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Islam”, Routledge.
