Restricted access to university buildings on 3 May

Text: Bielefeld University

For security reasons, the university will be restricting access to the main university building in part and completely restricting access to Building X and the interim library building from 12 noon tomorrow, Saturday 3 May. This is because the city has informed the University that some of the Dynamo Dresden fans travelling to the Arminia Bielefeld football match against Dynamo Dresden on 3 May have arranged to walk to the stadium together. The starting point of this fan march with an estimated 2,000 participants is the university campus.

The main university building will continue to be accessible via the entrances on the south side (from Konsequenz Street) from 12 noon on Saturday, 3 May. All other entrances, including the main entrance, will be closed.

According to the University Library, the Library Services Centre (BDZ) and the departmental libraries in the main building will be open as normal on 3 May. The departmental library in the Interim Library and the departmental library in Building X will close at 12 noon on 3 May.

Rector Angelika Epple says: “The fans of Dynamo Dresden surely just want to celebrate a great football event. However, past experiences show that we must expect a larger number of individuals to enter the university as well. This coming Saturday, there will be significantly more organized fans gathering on the campus. We are aware that this measure may limit your ability to work on-site, but we hope for understanding.
