SUMMARY:DGfS Summer School 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Summer School of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaften (DGfS) is taking place at the CRC 1646 “Linguistic Creativity in Communication” at Bielefeld University 10th-21st August\, 2026. It is a bi-annual summer school which is directed at early career researchers (advanced MA students\, doctoral researchers & postdocs) in linguistics and related fields. This year\, we are offering 32 1-week courses on a variety of topics in Syntax/Morphology\, Semantics/Pragmatics\, Linguistic Creativity and Foundational courses and welcome more than 100 participants from around the world. \nDie 1978 gegründete Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft ist eine Vereinigung von Personen und Einrichtungen\, die natürliche Sprachen wissenschaftlich erforschen. Derzeit zählt sie mehr als 1.200 Mitglieder aus dem In- und Ausland\, von denen die meisten an Universitäten und außerwissenschaftlichen Instituten tätig sind. Seit 1983 veranstaltet die DGfS auch Sommerschulen zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses. SUMMARY:Kapitalismus und Krieg: Long Boom of Destruction – A History of German-Israeli Military Relations
DESCRIPTION:This talk examines postwar German–Israeli military-industrial relations as a constitutive site in which Holocaust memory\, Cold War realignment\, and contemporary security governance converge. Challenging interpretations that attribute the ideological and narrative architecture of Germany’s material support for Israel genocidal campaign to a “derailed” memory politics\, it will examine how the dominant discourse of German historical responsibility for genocide— epitomized in the dictum “Israel’s security is Germany’s Staatsräson” — has converted so-called “historical guilt” into a political economy of militarization and arms circulation.\nThe first part of the talk examines West Germany’s infrastructural role in Israel’s violent settler-colonial expansion between 1950 and 1967\, shining light on the centrality of industrial transfer\, infrastructural development\, technical expertise\, trained personnel\, and military aid. These processes simultaneously enabled West Germany’s reintegration into the Cold War order and Israel’s consolidation as a regional military power.\nThe second part turns to shared military architecture that Germany and Israel have built up over decades\, focusing on the co-development of counterinsurgency practices and Israel’s regional integration into global circuits of energy and resource extraction.\nTaken together\, the talk argues that Staatsräson functions as a euphemism for ongoing military cooperation\, embedding German memory culture within enduring regimes of coloniality\, militarization\, and capitalist accumulation. \nDie Vortragsreihe „Kapitalismus und Krieg“ wird von der AG Internationale Beziehungen und Politische Ökonomie (AB4 / AG Koddenbrock) an der Fakultät für Soziologie ausgerichtet.  \n\nWeitere Informationen unter: sekretariat.koddenbrock@uni-bielefeld.de

Eine methodologische Herangehensweise\, die Antisemitismus als Form von Diskriminierung untersucht\, durch welche Juden:Jüdinnen benachteiligt werden\, bietet das Konzept des „institutionellen Rassismus“. Der Vortrag wird fragen\, wie und ob dieser theoretische und empirische Zugang aus der Rassismusforschung sich auf den Antisemitismus übertragen lässt. The project is grounded in the assumption that our understanding of the past is greatly shaped by our perception of the material world and the attendant theories. This exploratory interdisciplinary workshop brings together historians\, philosophers of science\, physicists\, and theorists of history to rethink the ontology of the past. Building on recent developments in the philosophy of physics\, quantum mechanics\, and new materialism it explores how contemporary understandings of physical reality can inspire innovative ways of conceptualizing historical phenomena. \nThe event will take place on 9 July (2 pm to 6 pm) and on 10 July (9 am to 6 pm). \n  \nPublic Access: Advance registration is required. SUMMARY:Kapitalismus und Krieg: Morbid Symptoms and Broken Paradisgms: Post-Soviet Crises of Knowledge\, Hegemony\, and Revolution
DESCRIPTION:The Russia-Ukraine war has exposed systematic failures to explain the war’s actual trajectory — Ukraine’s fragmentation\, Russia’s authoritarian consolidation\, and the fragility of Western unity. This lecture argues that these analytical failures reflect a deeper crisis of knowledge\, rooted in the inadequacy of prevailing analytical frameworks for understanding post-Soviet transformation: theories of democratization\, patronal politics\, and decolonization. As an alternative\, I outline a research program grounded in a Gramscian framework of hegemony crisis as a long-term disintegrative process with its own self-reproducing dynamics. The lecture\ntraces a post-Soviet vicious circle in which the centrifugal disintegration of Soviet counterhegemony has contributed to the global erosion of democratic capitalism\, generating both authoritarian (Caesarist) and deficient revolutionary responses that fail to resolve the underlying crisis and instead either conserve or intensify it. Applied to Ukraine’s Euromaidan of 2014 and its aftermath\, this framework explains both why contemporary revolutions do not produce durable orders and why the resulting political fragmentation left post-Euromaidan Ukraine vulnerable to Caesarist coercion from without. \nDie Vortragsreihe „Kapitalismus und Krieg“ wird von der AG Internationale Beziehungen und Politische Ökonomie (AB4 / AG Koddenbrock) an der Fakultät für Soziologie ausgerichtet.  \nWeitere Informationen unter: sekretariat.koddenbrock@uni-bielefeld.de
